This is a treasure! When you look thru the table top of this 2.25ct Emerald the natural veils in the gem and the hand cut design in the gold come together to create breathtaking beauty. The emerald is held in its original 200 year old setting of 18k gold and pure silver with a hand sawn floral design on the back, when you look closely at it you can still see the tiny saw marks of the jeweler who lovingly created it so long ago. Having lost it's original purpose of being a clasp I decided it would make a lovely ring, I had my hand fabricator create a band for it with just the right balance in just the right color of recycled gold, using age old techniques. I've collected bits and bobs for decades, and this lovely Flat table cut Emerald in its amazing hand cut setting has been lingering in the vault awaiting its reincarnation. Re using jewels that no longer work in their original capacity is one of the ways that I care for the planet, I am obsessed with using what we already have to create something fresh and relevant. #recyclingisbeautiful

The shoulders have a raised feather design set above a stippled background. The profile of the top of the ring has lovely curliques of applied gold and all but the garnet are in closed settings. The inside of the back of the band is hallmarked for Birmingham 15ct and the date letter for 1872-3. This ring is completely handmade using techniques that were more common in the late 1700's than in the latter half of the 1800's, you can see the love the jeweler put into it.

A lovely example of late Georgian Paste jewelry. The center of the ring is set with a rectangular Emerald Paste gem surrounded by 21 clear paste omc stones. Each clear paste has a black dot at the center of the bottom to accentuate the culet. This was very fashionable in the Georgian era to make paste stones seem more like diamonds. All of the pastes are foil backed this was done to make them more sparkly in candlelight. The top of the ring is silver on 18k gold and the shank is 14k gold. The term paste refers to a lead crystal which was first developed in 1675. By the 18th century, it was very popular both in England and in France. This ring is circa 1800-10
