A beautiful and historically interesting Berlin iron bracelet with cameo clasp, a rare and exciting find. Four floral open work panels in the Neo-Classical style alternate with narrow scrolling floral panels, linked by steel rings. The clasp is a cast iron cameo featuring the profile of, perhaps, Augustus Cesar? The cameo sits on an oval of polished steel in the fashion common to Berlin iron jewels. The integrated slide clasp is strong and secure. Iron and steel jewels should be kept dry to avoid rust. Circa 1840.

Berlin iron jewelry was created in Germany in the early 19th Century to support the battle against Napoleon Bonaparte I. German citizens were asked to donate their gold to fund the war; in return, they received iron inscribed with the phrase, "I gave gold for iron." Patriots wore these jewels proudly and inspired a wider fashion trend.

Details.....The bracelet measures 7" long and 1.23" wide. The clasp measures 1.52" by 1.81". In Very Good Antique Condition with wear consistent with its age. You should always expect some wear on your vintage and antique jewels, we consider it part of their charm.
