This early 19th century brooch features a wonderful example of palette work, a method of working locks of human hair into incredibly delicate and detailed images that are usually highly personal and symbolic. A cornucopia overflowing with flowers, a feather, and the initials "A.R." are all picked out in hair and natural pearls and sealed under glass. The frame is luxurious, scrolled 18k gold. What a beautiful and personal piece of jewelry history. The brooch is hallmarked for Belgium. Circa 1820.
