Sleeping Beauty Turquoise Zuni Flower Brooch

A classic Zuni flower brooch set with magnificent Sleeping Beauty turquoise. A scalloped circle of sterling silver set with a ring of small round turquoises within a second ring of larger teardrop-shaped turquoises. Each stone sits in a hand-cut bezel, with twisted silver wire and silver beads to complete the piece. The brooch fastens with a rollover clasp. Exquisite lapidary work is a hallmark of Zuni jewels, a feature that is on full display here. Circa 1970.

The Sleeping Beauty turquoise mine was one of the largest in America. Its turquoise is noted for its solid, light blue color with no matrix, making it a favorite of Zuni Pueblo lapidaries and silversmiths.

Details.....The brooch measures 1.77" in diameter. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should expect some wear on all vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
