The back of the brooch features a chatelaine hook for suspending a watch or pendant. Even the clasp is extra fabulous. The image of a winged wheel dates back thousands of years and is seen in Greek and Roman history and on monuments. It is said to represent Athena, Mercury, even a Chariot, surely an image that implies movement. Circa 1890.
