Wearing matched bracelets was all the rage in the 1860s, and we were so excited to find this set intact. We are selling these bracelets individually, though we hope they find a good home together.

This matched pair of gutta percha bracelets are beautifully made in the Aesthetic style, geometric and prettily dimensional. So well made that you can barely see the seams where the hidden clasp and hinges reside.

Gutta percha was made using the sap of a tree and was one of the more prominent materials used alongside Jet and Vulcanite to create the black mourning jewelry popular in the Victorian period. Over time gutta percha fades from a brown so dark as to look black to this pretty khaki color.

Details.....The bangles measure .63" wide, and the interior measures 1.94" x 1.51". The condition is excellent for the age and the hinges and clasps work perfectly. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels, we consider it part of the charm.
