A charming Corn Maiden brooch/pendant. The maiden is carved from a piece of Sleeping Beauty turquoise, her eyes are closed in sleep and she has sweet little red rosebud lips. She is nestled in a bed of sterling silver, ringed in twisted rope and small turquoise gems. I think she is dreaming of ripening crops and fat babies. The back of the brooch has both a pin and a bale so she may be worn as either a brooch or pendant. It is hand engraved with the signature "Tina Haloo Zuni '96."
Across Native American cultures, the Corn Maidens symbolize the prayers of the people for a bountiful harvest.
Tina Haloo is a Zuni artist, from a family of artists, who has been active since the late 1960s.
Details.....The brooch measures 0.96" by 1.56". In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should expect some wear on all vintage and antique jewels, we consider it part of their charm.
