A dreamy Zuni Corn Maiden brooch/pendant carved from glossy shell. The maiden's eyes are closed in sleep as she nestles in her corn husk mantle. She lays peacefully in a bed of sterling silver. Her form is accented by tiny beads of coral and turquoise. The back of the brooch has both a pin and a bale, so she may be worn as either a brooch or pendant. She is hand engraved with an artist's signature that is, sadly, illegible. Circa 1970.
Across Native American cultures, the Corn Maidens symbolize the prayers of the people for a bountiful harvest.
Details.....The brooch measures 0.72" by 2.15". In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should expect some wear on all vintage and antique jewels, we consider it part of their charm.
