A Victorian hard stone cameo is set in an Archeological Revival style picture frame brooch. The 14k gold frame is embellished with the beautiful metalwork particular to Etruscan Revival design. The top of the brooch frame resembles a Lyre, an ancient musical instrument. The woman's face is carved from the white bands of the hard stone and contrasts dramatically with the black band background. The figure has the three dimensional quality you want in a high-quality antique cameo. This wonderful piece features a bale as well as a pin, so it may be work as a pendant as well as a brooch. We think this beauty would look spectacular worn on a black velvet ribbon. Circa 1880s.
