The beauty of this Georgian Rivieré is apparent from first glance. The big chunky Old hand cut foil backed pastes are used to great effect, and bezel set in silver mounts. The paste gems alternate with little silver flower links. The pastes are quite deep as reflected in the shape of the back of each setting. They have large open culets that appear as a black dot in the center.
This type of necklace enjoyed a long period of popularity thru the 19th century, this one is from the Georgian Era and dates to circa 1800.
It is such a treat to find a piece like this, in good wearable condition.
This lovely necklace is all original, with patina intact.
Materials: Foiled Paste and Silver.
Measurements: 15" long. The pastes measure, largest .42" x .40" graduating in size to .29" x .27" smallest.
Condition: It does show some light wear in accordance with its age. One gem has a chip. The clasp is a Victorian replacement. It was likely originally tied closed with a ribbon.
