Gold Framed Agate Day and Night Earrings

I have always been enamored with this earring design from the early Victorian era. An elongated teardrop of creamy white agate appears to be floating in an engraved 18k gold foliate frame. It is suspended from a complementary circle of agate within its own frame of flowers and leaves. The bottom dangle can be removed from the top and the tops worn on their own, these are Day and Night earrings. The top alone would be proper for day wear in the 1800s and the dangle added for evening. These earrings are back loaders, which means the wire goes thru the back of the ear and snaps into the front. Circa 1840.

Details.....The complete earrings measure 2.30" long. The tops measure 0.65" by 0.75" and the bottoms measure 1.73" by 0.79" wide. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on your vintage and antique jewels, we consider it part of the charm.
