The Alaskan gold rushes inspired a unique jewelry style. Nugget and gold quartz jewels were abundant as in the California gold rush, but Alaska also brought exotic materials like petrified Mastodon and Walrus tusks and teeth into play. This ring is a perfect example of an Alaska gold rush jewel, petrified mastodon tusk surrounded by nuggets in a classically Victorian shape. Circa 1880.
