Very early hard stone and cut steel hair pin. This is a wonderful example of the love of colors that was happening in the late 18th century. This hairpin has an array of hard stones riveted with cut steel. Agates, Jasper, Sodalite, and Bloodstone alternate in shapes from ovals to rectangles, what a wonderful specimen to have survived over 200 years. The double hair pin itself is brass and hinged so when inserted in the elaborate updos of the era the top would be properly positioned. The gems and cut steels are all intact but the tines show their age. It is still wearable, circa 1780.
Details.....The hair pin is 3.77" long and the decorative top measures 1.36" across. In Good Antique condition showing wear.
