This lovely little brooch is a lace pin, also known as a Fichu. These tiny, lightweight brooches had the specific task of pinning closed a lace Fichu (a type of neck scarf). Fichus were fashionable from the early 18th century well into the 19th century.

This sweet memorial pin features a plait of woven brunette hair, preserved under glass. The glass is bezel set within an ornate gold frame. The initials "JP" are exquisitely hand engraved on the back. The brooch is secured with a 20th Century replacement C-clasp. This lovely piece was handcrafted in the late Georgian era, it is in very good condition for its age. Circa 1820.
