Superb Sinuous Serpent Gem Set 18k Gold Locket

A sinuous serpent twines around gemstones on the front of this magnificent Victorian locket. The 18k gold locket is round, with a polished front and a very slightly matte back. The delicately sculpted snake is applied to the center of the locket, its scaly body curls around a lush garnet cabochon set in a raised bezel. A 0.30ct old mine cut diamond is set in the snake's head, the antique stone is delightful, and he gazes out from tiny garnet eyes. Beading is engraved around the edges of both the front and back of the locket. The interior is clean, with no glass or frames. The back of the locket is engraved with an elaborate monogram that remains open to interpretation. This piece closes tightly and is finished with an added jump ring and a curb chain marked 750 for 18k gold. Truly a superb piece, with a powerful talismanic energy. Circa 1890.

Details.....The chain is 16" long and the locket measures 1.70" in diameter. It weighs 25.6 grams. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces; we consider it part of the charm.
