A fabulous squash blossom-style necklace with a traditional Zuni Sunface motif. Fashioned like a classic squash blossom necklace with discs of mother of pearl, turquoise, onyx, and coral inlay depicting Sunface in place of the squash blossoms. The lapidary work is exquisite, set in sterling silver. Two-part construction beads and the Sunface discs are strung on a woven silver chain that supports the Naja. The Naja features Sunface with a mantle of scalloped silver and mother of pearl inlay resembling snow white feathers or flower petals. The piece is finished with silver cones and a hook and eye clasp. Dramatic in size yet lighter in weight and easier to wear than many necklaces of this type. The back of the Naja is signed "A. Gasper" for the artist Ashberry Gasper. Circa 1970.

The Sunface is an ancient Zuni symbol, representing the sacred Sun Father. The Zuni honor the Sun's life sustaining warmth that enables growth and brings joy and prosperity to the people.

Details.....The necklace is 25" long. The small Sunface measures 0.93" in diameter and the Naja is 1.03" by 1.88" by 2.05". In Excellent Vintage Condition. You should expect some wear on all vintage and antique jewels, we consider it part of their charm.
