"Choose Love" Victorian Fob with Devilish Cherub

A sentimental Victorian fob with a strange little mystery. The small gold-sheeted fob has a curvaceous foliate design. A carved purple glass seal is bezel set in the base with the legend "Choose" engraved above the image of Cupid pushing a wheelbarrow full of hearts, except ... Don't you think the cherub looks more like a devil? With a sharply pointed nose and chin, hair with the look of horns, and wings that look suspiciously bat-like?  He still has a chubby cherubic posterior, though. What highly personal message is this meant to convey, I wonder? This fob will make a gorgeous pendant; try wearing it on one of our Ancient Influences married chains. Circa 1880.

Details.....The fob is .90" tall, and the base measures .61" by .53". In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of the charm.
