A magnificent antique married chain pairing generous 14k gold and gutta percha links. Oval links of engraved gold connect to a segment of molded gutta percha links via two gorgeous oversized bolt rings, allowing the long necklace to convert into a choker. Such a stunning example of Late Victorian glamour; there is no combination like black and gold.

Gutta percha is a natural thermoplastic made from the sap of the gutta percha tree. It was one of the more prominent materials used alongside jet, onyx, and vulcanite to create the black mourning jewelry popular in the Victorian period. Over time gutta percha fades from a blackish-brown to a pretty khaki color.
