The color and sparkle of this French Belle Epoque pendant is simply outrageous. Swirling ribbons and bows set with glittering white diamonds form the top of the pendant. A garland of flowers with hot pink sapphire petals and bright blue sapphire centers drape from the pendant's bottom. Diamonds, rubies, and pink and blue sapphires accent the ornate, openwork body of the piece. The heart of this incredible jewel is a gemstone called maxixe, very rare in this size; this vivid teal-colored gem is cut in a heart shape, inverted here, and set in a gold bezel framed in diamonds. All of the vibrant little gems encrust engraved silver and yellow gold. Two points of articulation give the pendant a supple movement; it hangs on a modern 14k yellow gold curb chain. It bears several French eagle head hallmarks. This one is really something; it is genuinely breathtaking. Circa 1915.

Maxixe (pronounced Mah-she-she) is a variety of beryl with an intense aquamarine or sapphire-like color. It was discovered in 1917 in the Maxixe mine of Brazil. Maxixe is very sensitive to heat, avoid exposure to sunlight or temperatures above 100° C or it will rapidly lose its breathtaking color.

Details.....The necklace is 18" long, and the pendant measures 1.2" by 1.97". In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on your vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
