A charming Victorian portrait box. A miniature painting is set into the top of a small round box of gilded bronze. The portrait features a gorgeous blonde woman, bedecked in ribbons and flowers. It appears to be signed by the artist and preserved under glass. Elaborate engraving covers the box's exterior, and the interior lining is a wine-colored velvet. The hinge and clasp are in good working order. A flat bottom, stable weight, and velvet-lined interior make this box perfect for storing your treasured jewels. Circa 1890.

The patch box originated in the 18th Century during the reign of Louis XV. Used to store patches and bits of gummed black taffeta worn by fashionable people to emphasize the beauty of their skin or to cover blemishes, the term patch box has come to refer to many types of small, decorative boxes.

Details.....The box measures 2.05" in diameter and 1" tall. In Very Good Antique Condition, with two worn spots on the bottom of the box. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
