A dramatic lariat necklace of ornate sterling silver beads with matching earrings. The beads are polished cylinders with lacy cannetille caps. Cannetille metalwork employs intricately coiled wire curled and twisted to form complex patterns accented with tiny balls. The beads are strung on silver wire, each end of the necklace terminating in a larger bead. The necklace clasps in the front; two larger beads are equipped with a small tab and notch fastener that clicks together, leaving two lengths to dangle free. The screw-back earrings are a single bead, hanging from a cannetille top. The earring bottoms are marked "Casa Domingo Taxco Mexico R.D. 0.925 Hecho en Mexico Cuernavaca." A very cool example of Mexican Modernist jewelry. Circa 1950.

The city of Taxco is an important center for Mexican silver jewelry design. During the 1940s, Taxco drew jewelry artists from all over the world. The main attraction for the designers and studio jewelers was the abundant supply of locally mined materials, such as silver and semi-precious gems.

Details.....The necklace is 31" long and has a wearable length of 22". The beads measure .45" and .65" in diameter. It weighs 5.1 oz. The earrings are 1.05" long, and the beads measure .45". They weigh 8.2 grams. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces; we consider it part of the charm.
