A sensational sterling silver clamper bracelet made during a high point in Mexican jewelry design. Repoussé silver work creates the illusion of a textile armband adorned with beaded swags. The flared "pleated" front tapers into a "plaited" band in the back. The repoussé jewelry-making technique gives this piece a three-dimensional quality. The back of the bracelet is hinged, allowing the piece to open and close easily. A dramatic pre-Columbian motif brings a thrilling vitality to the bracelet. The interior is marked "ES Hecho en Taxco Mexico 925 Sterling." Circa 1940.

The city of Taxco is an important center for Mexican silver jewelry design. During the 1940s, Taxco drew jewelry artists from all over the world. The main attraction for the designers and studio jewelers was the abundant supply of locally mined materials such as silver and semi-precious gems.

Details.....The bracelet's front measures 4.43" wide, the back is 1.22" wide, and it measures 2.41" across. The approximate interior circumference is 7.05". This piece weighs 2.66 ounces. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should expect some wear on all vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
