The Scarabs in this bracelet are like a history of ancient materials and styles. There are stone scarabs decorated in the scroll meander designs favored during the New Kingdom era, faience scarabs with more classic imagery of the Middle Kingdom, and even glass scarabs dating to the Roman Egyptian period that lasted until 642ce. The one that dangles from the end is a lovely green-turquoise color in a cowrie shell shape and features a lotus on its obverse. The Lotus symbolizes the Nile and her tributaries; this feels special as the Nile was and is the lifeblood of Egypt. The scarabs date from the Middle Kingdom through when Egypt became a Roman Province. The gold tests to 18k fineness.

The Modern world has long had a fascination with Ancient Egypt. Napoleon's Egyptian Campaign in the last years of the 1700s had Europeans enamored with all things Egyptian, and soon after, they began making jewels and decorative objects using Ancient amulets and scarabs. The fascination continued as first, the tomb of Nefertiti was discovered in the late 1800s, and then in the 1920s when the sensational burial of King Tutankhamun was found.

Details.....The bracelet measures 7.5" in wearable length. The center scarab measures .91" x .59". In Very Good Antique condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of the charm.
