What a wonderful whimsical brooch. This piece is a three-dimensional turtle encrusted with crystals in rhodium-plated costume metal. The turtle is to scale with the young Box Turtle it resembles. Adorable and beautifully made. This is a large brooch, more appropriate for heavier fabrics. The piece is signed "Trigère" on its shiny belly. Circa 1960.

Pauline Trigère was a Franco-American couturière. Her award-winning styles reached their height of popularity in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. Turtles were Pauline Trigère's favorite symbol, she even named her country estate "La Tortue". Rumor has it that this fantastic turtle brooch has been featured in several books on 20th Century costume jewelry.

Details.....The brooch measures 3" by 2.25". In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
