Big Bright Orange Bakelite Statement Earrings

When the rings rotate, the earrings transform into gorgeous globes. The bakelite hangs on modern lever back ear wires of recycled gold filled metal. Bakelite is lightweight so you can wear these statement earrings comfortably all night long. Circa 1930.

Bakelite was the first plastic made from synthetic components. It was developed by chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York, in 1909. Bakelite jewelry became fashionable in the 1920s due to its sleek, modern look and its substantial, high-end feel. The wide variety of colors and visual textures made available by Bakelite kept it popular through the 1950s.
