Darling Sterling Silver Flower Drop Earrings

Darling little sterling silver flower drop earrings, made in Taxco, Mexico. Four-petaled blossoms are depicted in bas-relief; repoussé metalwork gives them a soft, puffy profile with pretty details. Spirals of sterling wire form the earring tops. The marriage of a romantic floral motif with graphic design elements give this piece its irresistible appeal. The back of each flower is marked "Sterling 925 Taxco V.A," and with the Mexican Eagle 3 stamp for sterling silver. These sweet little dangles are screw backs, you can wear them whether or not your ears are pierced. Circa 1940.

The city of Taxco is an important center for Mexican silver jewelry design. During the 1940s Taxco drew jewelry artists from all over the world. The main attraction for designers and studio jewelers was the abundance of locally mined materials like silver and semi-precious gems.
