A superb Mexican Modernist sterling silver "V" collar necklace from the important artist Salvador Terán. A "V" of ribbed silver is linked to curved silver segments; the pieces are hinged, allowing for comfort and ease of wear. The collar closes with an integrated slide clasp. The inside of the clasp is marked "Salvador," "Sterling," "Mexico," "161," and with the Mexican eagle mark indicating sterling silver. This necklace is an influential piece, we see similar collars but seldom with this level of sophistication and beauty. Circa 1940.

Salvador Vaca Terán (1920 – 1974) was born in Taxco, Mexico. He began working for William Spratling in the 1930s. In 1939 he cofounded the renown Taxco workshop Los Castillos, creating jewelry sold under their mark until 1952. He then moved to Mexico City to open his own shop, La India Bonita. Terán is considered an exceptional Mexican Modernist designer, innovator, and silversmith.

Details.....The inner circumference of the torc is 16". It measures 0.41" wide and 0.13" thick. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
