An enchanting Bohemian glass patch box in shades of pale yellow and rich purple, the colors, forms, and motifs are quintessentially Art Nouveau. Delicate purple crocus flowers are enameled on the clear glass lid, framed in butter-yellow whiplash lines with gold accents. The box's base is slightly iridescent purple glass, enameled with yellow and purple crocus buds. The box is bottom-heavy, and its lid is flat. It is banded in brass with a decorative hinge and latch. This medium-sized box is ideal for storing small, precious items, such as your favorite antique jewels. Circa 1890.

The patch box originated in the 18th Century during the reign of Louis XV. Used to store patches and bits of gummed black taffeta worn by fashionable people to emphasize the beauty of their skin or to cover blemishes, the term patch box has come to refer to many types of small, decorative boxes.

Details.....The box measures 2.62" in diameter and 1.38" tall. In Very Good Antique Condition, with signs of wear but no chipping. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
