This colorful Victorian giardinetti, or "little garden," brooch is adorned with paste gems and bright blue enamel. The wee 800 silver brooch depicts a bouquet of flowers displayed in an ornate two-handled vase. The brooch fastens with a c-clasp and a bale has been added allowing the piece to be worn as a pendant. Such a charming version of this classic style. Circa 1890.
Paste gems are leaded glass gems formed in molds and then polished to resemble diamonds or gemstones. With better quality pastes facets could even be cut and polished like natural gems.
Details..... The brooch measures 1.43" by 1.20". In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels, we consider it part of the charm.
