An exquisite Edwardian lavalier necklace of finely modeled 10k gold set with pearls and cornflower blue sapphires. The pendant has an Art Nouveau aesthetic; its central form is a cross with curling arms like ribbons that wrap around an oval frame. Pretty pearls pave the gold, and a sapphire is center-set in platinum. Three articulated drops dangle from the its base, each set with sapphires and pearls. The pendant hangs from a delicate cable chain, studded with a final bright sapphire. This is a particularly lovely example, it would make a delightful bridal necklace. Circa 1900.
The word "lavalier" refers to an ornamental pendant suspended on a neck chain. The first recorded use of the term dates to 1915–20, named after the Duchesse de La Vallière (1644–1710), one of the mistresses of Louis XIV.
Details.....The necklace is 15" long, the pendant measures .73" wide by 1.72" long. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of the charm.
