A sandcast silver Naja pendant, suspended alongside Navajo two-part construction beads. The beads and pendant are strung on a woven silver chain that fastens with an "S" hook and eye clasp. This necklace's traditional elements feel fresh in this understated presentation. Circa 1970.
The Naja symbol is believed to have originated in the Middle East. The Moors brought horse-shoe shaped jewelry with them into Spain as a ward against the evil eye. The Spanish conquistadors introduced the symbol to the Navajo, who integrated it into the dramatic squash blossom design.
Details.....The necklace is 22" long, the Naja measures 2" by 2.65". The beads measure 8mm in diameter. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should expect some wear on all vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
