A dramatic necklace of turquoise nuggets and heishi beads. Brilliant blue tabs of natural turquoise are strung on silk with tiny shell beads. The sriking necklace finishes with a handmade hook and eye clasp. Circa 1960.
Heishi (meaning "shell") beads are small disc or tube-shaped beads made of shells or stones, traditionally cut, polished, and drilled by hand. They originate with the Kewa Pueblo, previously known as the Pueblo of Santo Domingo, people of New Mexico.
Details......The necklace is 25" long, the turquoise tabs range between .58" and 1.53". The heishi beads measure 2.5mm. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of the charm.
