Civil War Era Book Locket

This charming Civil War era locket is shaped like a book, with black enamel and ornate edges. The exterior of the gold filled locket is engraved and enameled with roses on both sides. The interior of the locket swivels open to reveal a compartment which would have held a lock of a loved one's hair. The interior of the locket is also engraved to resemble a book. This style of locket was not meant to be worn on a chain, it was intended to be carried in a pocket. It is possible this amazing locket was a love token carried by a soldier into battle. Circa 1860.

Details.....The locket measures 0.85" by o.69". In Very Good antique condition with wear appropriate for its age. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces, we consider it part of the charm.
