Faceted Black Glass Victorian Bar Pin
A bold and graphic faceted black glass bar pin. Dating to the late Victorian era, this mourning brooch glitters with a wonderful dark sparkle. The pin secures with the brass C-clasp pin common to the era. Circa 1890.
Queen Victoria was in mourning for her husband for decades; as a result mourning attire became fashionable in society. Jet and onyx were the most prestigious materials used in mourning jewelry. Black glass, often called French jet, was commonly used as a more affordable and available material.
