Fascinating Form 14k Gold Watch Key
Before watches were wound by twisting the stem, a key (like this one) was fitted to a gear at the back of the watch to wind the piece. Since it was necessary to carry the key with the watch, keys were often given decorative forms and worn on watch chains alongside their watches. Now, we wear the lovely old watch keys as pendants.
This fascinating 14k gold watch key is a fine example of the type and would look great worn on your favorite chain. Heavy gold wire is coiled upon itself, creating a small sculptural form that feels both industrial and skeletal. A generously sized oval bale makes it easy to hang the key from whatever suits your fancy. An interesting piece of history that will add character to your Neck Wreck. Circa 1850.
Details.....This watch key measures .38" by .23" by 1.13". In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it a part of their charm.
