Gold and Garnet Necklace Circa 1850
This is a lovely example of a mid 1800's closed back garnet necklace. This necklace would have originally been attached to a ribbon and tied around the neck, I have added a period chain to make it more wearable without altering any of its original charm. The necklace is comprised of beautifully cut oval garnets with broad flat surfaces and faceted edges barely visible above their settings. The settings are dome backed with pinched collets and the garnets are foiled for the ultimate refection in the low candle and gas light of the era. The gold is 9k which dates this necklace to the 1850's and the chain I have added is also 9ct marked with its original little plaque at the end. The chain is a nice match color wise and is a hand made curb from the mid 1800's as well.
Details.....The necklace is 16" long and the individual garnets in their settings average .35" x .26". In Excellent Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on Vintage and Antique Jewels, we consider it a part of their charm.
