Everyone needs a good strand of pearls. Mikimoto invented cultured pearls, they were the first and remain the best. This Matinee length strand of graduated Mikimoto cultured pearls are a glowing creamy white, hand-knotted on white silk. The pretty sterling silver clasp is set with a tiny pearl. Included is the necklace's original box, with a green leather exterior, purple velvet interior, and "K.Mikimoto Ginza Tokyo" printed on the silk underside of the lid. Circa 1950.

Pearls were first cultured in 1893 by Mikimoto. Cultured pearls are created by adding an irritant, such as a grain of sand or small bead, to a pearl oyster to encourage it to cover the irritant in nacre, thus creating a pearl.

Details....The necklace measures 22" long, and the pearls graduate from 3mm to 6.8mm. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on Vintage and Antique Jewels, we consider it a part of the charm.
