Jugendstil Garnet & Enamel Necklace
The German Jugendstil movement coincided with the French Art Nouveau and English and American Arts & Crafts movements. Jugendstil means "Youth Style," fresh, young, and cutting edge. This necklace is certainly all of that and would have been shocking in 1900 with its marriage of curves and geometry. The 800-grade silver pendant features an enameled element that swings within a silver frame. Bezel set garnets and bright blue enamel embellish that moving element. A gorgeous peanut chain supports the pendant. The necklace is marked "800" on the back, the mark for silver used in Germany during this era. Circa 1900.
Details.....The necklace is 16" long, and the pendant measures .89" by 1.62". In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it a part of their charm.
