This dramatic copper bracelet was made by Renoir of California in pattern "Merlin." A Modernist reimagining of a Medieval gauntlet, this piece makes a bold yet elegant statement. The wide cuff is edged on one side with strips of curled copper. The other edge comes to a subtle point, like the gauntlet worn with a suit of armor. This bracelet is signed "Renoir." Circa 1950.

Renoir of California produced copper jewelry from the mid 1940s until 1964. Renoir specialized in jewels with strong geometric, modernist, and abstract forms. Copper jewelry was all the rage during the Mid 20th Century; designer firms like Renoir and Matisse as well as small studio artists produced fabulous wearable art. This "Merlin" piece is pictured in Burkholz and Kaplan's 1998 reference book Copper Art Jewellery: A Different Luster

Details.....The bracelet measures 2.4" by 1.9" and the cuff tapers from 0.75" to 1.5" wide. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should expect some wear on all vintage and antique jewels, we consider it part of their charm.
