This Unger Bros brooch reproduces Alphonse Mucha's 1897 work: Tête Byzantine - Brunette. The portrait closely resembles the renown French actress Sarah Bernhardt who Mucha often painted. The woman's gorgeous profile is rendered in sterling silver. The subject, her flowing locks and the elaborate Egyptian Revival headdress are all ideal examples of the Art Nouveau aesthetic. The brooch is a chatelette, with a hook for a watch that also allows the piece to be worn as a pendant. The back is signed for Unger Bros. What a wonderful piece, beautiful in its own right and historically fascinating. Circa 1910.

Details.....The brooch measures 1.36" by 1.1". In Very Good Vintage condition. You should expect all vintage and antique jewels to show some wear, we consider it part of their charm.
