Order of the Garter Gold & Silver Medal Fob
A particularly interesting English gold on sterling silver medal fob. The front of the medal features a raised gold shield engraved with the date 1929. The shield is surrounded by the insignia of The Order of the Garter, a buckled strap topped with a crown. The back of the medal bears the engraving: S.CL.I. WINNERS GYM COMPT. A. DADE. The piece is hallmarked for Birmingham, sterling silver and the years 1927-28. It is also signed with the maker's mark for Thomas Fattorini, a silversmith producing in Birmingham at the time. This fob will make a handsome pendant. It will look fabulous on one of our Ancient Influences married chains.
The acronym S.CL.I. may reference the Somerset Light Infantry and/or The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. Those two regiments of the British Army merged in 1959 to create the Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry, or the S.C.L.I. The title Compt. may be short for comptroller, a public official who audits government accounts and examines and supervises expenditures. The Most Noble Order of the Garter is an order of chivalry founded by Edward III of England in 1348. It is the most senior order of knighthood in the British honours system.
Details.....The medal measures 1.29" by 1.64". In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels, we consider it part of the charm.
