Pearlescent Ammonite Fossil in Sterling Pendant
Part of a collection of small, ancient objects that have been capped in silver and converted into pendants. Here we have an incredible iridescent ammonite fossil that has been bisected, the interior polished, and framed thoughtfully in sterling silver. Ammonites were shelled cephalopods that died out about 66 million years ago. The fossilized shell of many ammonites displays an effect called pearlescence, an optical illusion that results from ammonite shells' high nacre content. This fascinating piece hangs on a heavy sterling silver oval cable chain, and it would look fierce worn on one of our Ancient Influences married chains.
Details.....The chain is 16" long. The fossil measures 1.31" by 1.47". In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces; we consider it part of the charm.
