Stunning Striated Malachite in Sterling Overlay Ring

Malachite: a stunning gemstone striated with countless vibrant shades of green, stars in this ring of beautifully worked sterling silver. The oval stone is bezel set at the center of a long plaque of scalloped silver. The malachite is framed in twisted silver wire. Scallops and curlicues of silver overlay edge the plaque. Overlay is a technique in which a carved layer of polished silver is applied to a layer of oxidized silver, creating a shadow box effect. Silver beads are placed at the plaque's cardinal points. The decorative top sits above split shoulders that taper into a half-round band. This is a striking ring with a vivacious character. Circa 1970.
