This lovely Suffragette necklace, in violet, green, and white, is historically and socially significant. The pendant is crowned with a decorative bale set with split pearls. A bezel-set amethyst link hangs from the bale. Suspended from this amethyst is a graceful length of sculpted gold. At the base, an exquisitely faceted peridot sits in an engraved bezel within a surround of split pearls. The gems are set in 15ct gold, a common fineness for gold in England. The long, elegant pendant is beautifully articulated and hangs on a fine rope chain. Circa 1910.

The Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) was one of many organizations working for women's right to vote in the US and England. In 1908, WSPU declared green, white, and violet the colors of their movement. These colors represented the qualities of Suffragettes: violet for dignity, white for purity, and green for hope. This group of colors became a mainstream Suffragette symbol, and some companies even marketed items in this color palette as "Suffragette Jewelry."

Details.....The chain is 16" long, and the pendant measures 2.65" long by .59" wide. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces; we consider it part of the charm.
