Alfred Philippe was a prolific designer of Costume Jewelry in the mid 20th century. The majority of his pieces were produced for Trifari, a high-end costume jewelry manufacturer.
This lovely set is one of my favorite of his designs, the Butterflies. These butterflies have a sense of whimsy to them, they are playful and fun. The set is comprised of a nice sized brooch and a matching pair of clip-on earrings. The style of clip Trifari used on its earrings in this period is comfortable to wear. The Butterflies are set with open backed cabochon glass gems in Ruby Red and Sapphire Blue, enhancing these are areas of pavé set clear foiled back rhinestones. Very pretty and following the styles popular in "real" jewelry of the period.
