This endearing little brooch is a lace pin, also known as a fichu. These tiny, lightweight brooches had the task of pinning closed a lace fichu (a type of neck scarf). Fichus were fashionable from the early 18th Century well into the 19th Century.

The charming low-karat rosy gold pin features a plait of woven hair preserved under bevel-edged glass. Decadent garnets in closed-back, hand-cut bezels frame the glass. Lustrous chestnut hair and claret-colored garnets complement each other perfectly. The brooch is secured with a C-clasp. This dainty sentimental token was handcrafted in the late Georgian era. Circa 1820.

Details.....The brooch measures .86" by .72". In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces; we consider it part of the charm.
