Surreal Copper & Red Enamel Matisse Necklace on Original Card
A surreal copper and enamel necklace, signed for Matisse with its original display card. Wave-shaped links are enameled in a decadent shade of red. Flourishes of polished copper curl over the enameled links. Small copper rings connect the links, and the piece is finished with a decorative copper extender chain. This wild necklace immediately reminds me of Velvet Underground's Loaded album cover. Circa 1950.
Copper jewels were all the rage from the late 1940s to the mid-1960s. From designer firms like Renoir and Matisse to small studio artists, this trend produced fabulous wearable art.
Details.....The necklace is 14.5" long, 18.5" with extender chain, and the enameled panels measure 1.83" by .77". In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should expect some wear on all vintage and antique jewels, we consider it part of their charm.
