Romantic Victorian Revival brooch with an ivory-colored cameo set in a faux tortoise shell frame. The Bakelite cameo depicts a lush lady; her wild flowing hair and draped bodice are loaded with blowsy blossoms. A translucent brooch of honey-colored lucite frames the cameo. The piece fastens with a rollover clasp. Circa 1940.
Bakelite was the first plastic made from synthetic components. The wide variety of colors and visual textures made available by Bakelite kept it popular through the 1950s. Lucite is an engineering plastic trademarked in the United States in the late 1930s. Light and translucent, it is often used as an alternative to glass.
Details.....The brooch measures 1.92" by 2.56". In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on your antique and vintage jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
