A 20th Century classic, this heavy 10k gold signet ring is set with a Roman soldier intaglio. The rectangular carnelian intaglio is carved with the popular Roman soldier motif, with a fascinating detail: he is wearing the Dacian Draco ensign upon his helmet. The handsome carving is bezel set above stepped shoulders and a wide, flat band. Circa 1930.

The Dacian Draco was the standard ensign of troops of the ancient Dacian people. The Dacian Draco was a wind instrument in the form of a dragon with open wolf-like jaws containing several metal tongues. The Draco was held above the head of a soldier, where it filled with air and made a shrill sound. Scholars believe that the Draco was adopted by the Roman army following their conquest of the Dacians after 106 CE.

Details.....Currently a size 8.75. The top of the ring measures 20.7mm by 13mm, and the band is 4mm wide. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it a part of their charm.
