This bright orange Bakelite bangle hides a colorful secret beneath a corset lace-motif panel. Slide the racy black and gold-tone panel around the wide, grooved bracelet to reveal a bright palette of cosmetics; compartments of rouge, powder, highlighter, and gloss are inset in the Bakelite. Much of the original make-up is present, pretty impressive after 100 years. Probably wouldn't recommend applying the cosmetics to your skin; nevertheless, this unique piece is a collectible window in to a glamorous past. The bangle's interior is signed "Marlowe Cosmetics Bracelet Parisienne." Circa 1920.

Bakelite was the first plastic made from synthetic components. Developed by chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York, 1909. Bakelite jewelry became fashionable in the 1920s due to its sleek, modern look and substantial, high-end feel. The wide variety of colors and visual textures made available by Bakelite kept it popular through the 1950s.

Details.....The bangle's exterior measures 2.85" in diameter and .82" wide. It has an 8" inner circumference. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on your antique and vintage jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
